There are many museums in Moscow. The two of greatest interest to the foreign visitor are the Pushkin Museum and the Tretyakovskaya. The first contains a large collection of European Renaissance, Classical and Impressionist art. The second houses an enormous collection of Russian art, much of it taken from churches and palaces all over the country. There is also a large collection of communist era realist art, earnest factory and farm workers and soldiers.

THE KREMLIN

The former residence of Russian Czars was built between the 15th and 20th centuries. Cathedral Square, the center of the Kremlin includes the 15th century Assumption Cathedral which is the main church of Russia, the Annunciation Cathedral the private church of Russian Czars, and the 16th century Cathedral of the Archangel the burial place of the Czars. Within the grounds are the Grand Palace, the modern Congresses Palace and the Armory and Diamond Fund. The ARMORY CHAMBER is the treasury of Russian Czars with unique collections of gold and silver items of the 12-19th centuries, Russian arms and armor of the 12-16th centuries, the state regalia, thrones, carriages and coronation dresses of the 16-19th centuries. DIAMOND FUND is a unique collection of gold and platinum nuggets; diamonds from Siberia and the Russian Crown Jewels (18-19th centuries), included in the collection is the 190-carat Orlov diamond.
