Journey south
from Saigon into the
Mekong
Delta.
This fertile area covered with rice fields and winding tributaries
owes much of its livelihood to the Mekong River. Travel along the
Mekong visiting villages, farms, floating markets and village
industries which revolve around this mighty river.
Day 1: Depart
Saigon for a 3-hour drive to Cai Be with a stop enroute for tea at a
bonsai garden. Upon arrival in Cai Be, journey by motorized sampan,
visit pop-corn cake and rice paper making shops along the river before
visiting the floating market at Cai Be. Continue by boat to Vinh
Long province where you will visit with a local fishing community.
Experience a cultural music show depicting Mekong river life
followed by a short biking tour to enjoy the rural countryside,
stopping at a fruit farm and honeybee farm. Return to the boat to
visit a brick and pottery village. Return to Can Tho by car. Tour of
Can Tho by cyclo before checking into your hotel.

Day 2: Board your
boat for a 3-hour cruise to visit the one of the major floating markets of
the Mekong Delta at Cai Rang with a stop enroute at a
noodle making factory and a rice husking mill. Depart by car for Soc
Trang to visit the Khmer Temple and Museum and the Bat & Clay pagoda.
This area is also the home of a protected sanctuary for the red crane and
other endangered crane and stork. After visiting the sanctuary
continue to Bang Lang also part of the National Park system. A stop
in Long Xuyen before arriving in Chau Doc.

Day 3: Morning tour
of Chau Doc followed by an afternoon of exploring the hills and caves
around Tuc Dup Hill and Sam Mountain.

Day 4:
Morning cruise to visit a floating fish farm, floating village and the
Cham minority community village. Enjoy a visit to the mosque where
the Cham children go to school. Return to Saigon in the evening
and transfer to your hotel. (B)
